A related point to my post below is the fact that life is never going to be perfect. The last few years have been hard going for Adam and I for one reason or another, and I've often longed for things to settle down and for life to become easier.
I've realised recently that this is a false hope - life will have its ups and downs but the idea that we can engineer things so life is perfect is not going to get us anywhere. Of course we can make life easier or harder for ourselves by choosing this or that, but so much of it is out of our control.
Luckily, we will arrive at a perfect life - just have to wait for heaven!

This is a bit unrelated but in terms of ups and downs I always try to remember when I'm feeling negative emotions like anger or hurt etc etc that those emotions are just as important to feel in life as the positive ones (happiness, love etc) and that when they occur I shouldn't necessarily try to make them go away right away and behave as though everything is alright, but rather let myself feel them thoroughly until I don't need to any more.
On another note, if I don't do this I become stressed and shut down on emotions and become very quiet and unemotive. But then what happens is I have bad dreams instead which I figure are my body's way of letting me release some emotions that you don't always have the opportunity to do at the time of the stress (like if something upsetting happens at work for example). This just again makes me think that you do need to feel those negative emotions and sometimes even if you aim to not let them bother you, it can be easier to just be bothered for a time rather than try to escape it and behave as though everything always has to be fine.
That was a bit of a convoluted post lol - basically what I meant was that thinking of negative emotions or difficult parts of life as being just as important and worthwhile as the good parts can make the hard times a bit easier to cope with.
I totally agree Mary, wise words!
