"My Jesus, My Boyfriend"
Last night I had a dream that Adam and I were at a church and they sang a song that was biblically unsound (i.e. “Jesus is my boyfriend” sort of stuff), so I got in a huff and left! Lol I don’t think I would do that in real life, although I would think twice about going back somewhere if they had poor song choice. I think singing as a congregation is a great way of reminding each other of God’s word so it’s important for the songs to be biblical. It’s also a good indication of the importance the church places on the bible.

You can't fight your Aysom heritage, Alison - liking hymns is genetic with us! The very first record I remember hearing was a collection of hymns that for some reason or other I associate with Mungy ( who was Papa's mother.)I can still remember that the record had a pink and white label on it. Mungy was a great hymn-singer. She used to sing in her church choir.The other first record, although I guess I should be calling it the second record, was Tchaikovsky's "Waltz of the Flowers."
At (real) Asquith, we had an old record-player which was in a cabinet. The cabinet had places where you were supposed to put the records, but we must have replaced it with a new player some time, because the old cabinet was kept on the verandah and I used to hide my galoshes in it when the weather was wet, because I didn't like them and didn't want to wear them.
hear hear, whenever I see the words 'Jesus is my boyfriend' - it does crack me up.
Did you read that definition of 'Worship' I posted up a little while ago?
Hi Nixter, yeah I thought it was interesting, a bit narrow but perhaps the quote was addressing worship only in the congregational sense? A broader definition of worship would include how we live our lives in reverence to God day to day I think.
It's easy to ignore the teaching aspect of singing, but it's such an opportunity to preach the Word, so I agree with the quote on that.
KM, that is a funny story about the cabinet and your galoshes. I used to hate gumboots because they were not cool, and Dad would always try to get me to wear them to school in the rain. I don't think he ever succeeded!
It also reminds me of the time I filled Papa's boot up with water from the drainpipe out the front. He put his foot in it the next morning and was very surprised to find it soaking wet!
And you're right about the hymns, I grew up listening to evensong on 2MBS with the late great Anne Ramsay.
Yeah it certainly was a narrow definition of worship in regards to a congregational setting but spot on.
I also agree that worship is bigger than that and there is the way in which we worship independantly daily to God..

Are galoshes those things you put over your shoes like a shoe-raincoat?
Yeah - rubber overshoes. Very unco & always will be.
I hated them.
