The idea of giving up things for one great desire reminds me of this poem, by DH Lawrence (with thanks to KM for introducing me to it years ago!):
Gipsy
I, the man with the red scarf,
Will give thee what I have, this last week's earnings.
Take them, and buy thee a silver ring
And wed me, to ease my yearnings.
For the rest, when thou art wedded
I'll wet my brow for thee
With sweat, I'll enter a house for thy sake,
Thou shalt shut doors on me.
Communicating with your Terrific Toddler, Even When It’s Hard
-
Those sweet months of snuggling your tiny helpless baby in your arms went
by in a flash, didn’t they? Now you have a spirited little person who is
moving...

Bloody good poem, Alison. You can read it every time you go to the toilet @ my place. You once made me a lovely decorated copy of it and I put it where I would see it often.
I've got a copy of the one I made for you KM - it's in our back room.
